Fair Accenta: Flanders Expo Gent from 12 to 20 September 2009. A village (3000 m2) is planned with theme : space travel and other research

Day of the youth: On 17 September pupils and students will be invited in Flanders Expo for a special ‘space day’ with direct contact with Frank De Winne aboard the ISS.
Several educational and fun elements will illustrate the event.
The aim is to invite approximately 3000 young people.
 
Debate: Dynamic debate wit all astronauts, scientists and managers  (500 persons).

Plus que jamais, il est urgent de sensibiliser les jeunes à la science et à la technologie. L'année 2009 a été déclarée "Année Mondiale de l'Astronomie" et en par l'UNESCO et enet 2009 également, notre astronaute Frank De Winne effectuera un vol de six mois à bord de la station spatiale internationale ISS. Les pouvoirs publics compétents doivent dès lors faire de la conquête spatiale un thème-phare pour mener cette sensibilisation. Dans la fenêtre de temps qui s'ouvre, toutes les conditions sont réunies pour qu'une telle action soit un succès. Telle est une de conclusions du Forum «Espace et Enseignement» qui a été créé en 2005 sous la présidence de Frank De Winne. (Fonds Prince Philippe, Conférence «De l'Espace pour la science et la technologie», février 2008).
 
Il faut donc enthousiasmer les jeunes pour les sujets et métiers techniques et scientifiques et développer leur intérêt pour l'astronautique et l'astronomie dans le cadre de l'Année Internationale de l'Astronomie 2009. Par l'intérêt médiatique que la mission de Frank De Winne suscitera, les jeunes pourront à nouveau ‘rêver'. L'asbl Euro Space Society utilisera cette opportunité pour stimuler ce groupe cible aux études scientifiques ou technologiques.
 
«Trop peu de jeunes choisissent des études dans le domaine de la technique ou scientifique. Pourtant l'intérêt et le talent potentiel est présent chez les jeunes. Il suffit de traduire ces intérêts et talents en des compétences nécessaires» (Dirk Frimout).

Le projet

Une dizaine d'astronautes et cosmonautes seront invités dans notre pays du 13 au 19 septembre 2009 et donneront par leur témoignage des informations objectives et stimuleront le débat autour du thème de l'astronautique et de l'astronomie.
 
Le programme provisoire prévoit la participation de plusieurs astronautes/cosmonautes Russes, Américains et Européens qui participeront à des séances académiques avec comme thème le spatial et la mission de Frank De Winne afin de générer l'intérêt et influencer le choix pour des études scientifiques et technologiques.
 
Des contacts et un dialogue en direct avec Frank De Winne à bord d'ISS seront les moments forts de ces journées spatiales.
 
Des jeunes ou élèves seront sélectés par un concours autour de l'astronautique et l'ISS. Ce concours sera diffusé vers les responsables et dans les écoles fondamentales et secondaires de tous les réseaux (à étudier).
 
Les activités seront organisées en collaboration des universités belges. Les astronautes entameront le débat et témoigneront des grands défis en rapport avec notre planète. Afin d'atteindre un maximum de jeunes ils seront invités à différents après-midi pour les écoles.

Les participants

Vicomte Dirk Frimout, notre premier astronaute et président de l'asbl Euro Space Society a participé du 14-20 septembre dernier au ‘XXI Planetary Congress of the Association of Space Explorers' ( Seattle, Washington, USA) et y a déjà contacté ses collègues astronautes. Les astronautes suivants, dont quelques figures connues, se sont engagés provisoirement:

  • NASA astronaut John M. Fabian (Colonel, USAF, Ret.) A veteran of two space flights, he has logged over 316 hours in space. He served as a mission specialist on STS-7 (June 18-24, 1983) and STS-51G (June 17-24, 1985). 
  • Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. On April 19, 2001, became the first Canadian to walk in space. He and his crew mates aboard the space shuttle Endeavour delivered and installed the second generation of the Canadarm on the International Space Station (ISS) 
  • Kosmonaut Dumitru Prunariu (Roumanie) : Soyouz 40 in1981
  • Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor (Malaysia). He was launched to the International Space Station aboard Soyuz TMA-11 with the Expedition 16 crew on October 10, 2007. Sheikh Muszaphar (Malaysian orthopaedic surgeon) flew under an agreement with Russia and returned to Earth on October 21, 2007, aboard Soyuz TMA-10. Since Sheikh Muszaphar is a Muslim, and as his time in space coincided with the last part of Ramadan, the Islamic National Fatwa Council drew up the first comprehensive guidebook for Muslims in space. 
  • NASA astronaut Mario Runco (three space flights (STS-44 en 1991, STS-54 en 1993, et STS-77 en 1996). Il a participé aux journées spatiales en Belgique en 2008.
  • Female astronaut Chiaki Mukai , JAPAN. In 1985, Mukai was selected as one of three Japanese Payload Specialist candidates for the First Material Processing Test (Spacelab-J) which flew aboard STS-47. She also served as a back-up payload specialist for the Neurolab (STS-90) mission. Mukai has logged over 566 hours in space. She flew aboard STS-65 in 1994 and STS-95 in 1998. She is the first Japanese woman to fly in space, and the first Japanese citizen to fly twice.
  • Kosmonaut Sergey Revin, (Rus) Kosmonaut from Energia. From 2007 to 2008 at he was conducting an educational experiment conserning the possibilities of using space flights matereals in Ecology Studies at school.
  • Claudie Haigneré (FR) astronaute française
Il sera fait appel à la participation de l'ESA (European Space Agency), la Politique scientifique fédérale, la Communauté flamande et française, ainsi que de la Fondation Prince Philippe. L'industrie spatiale (Belgospace, Wallonie Espace et VRI) sera invitée comme partenaire ainsi que les universités et grandes écoles belges.
