Fair Accenta: Flanders Expo Gent from 12 to 20 September 2009. A village (3000 m2) is planned with theme : space travel and other research

Day of the youth: On 17 September pupils and students will be invited in Flanders Expo for a special ‘space day’ with direct contact with Frank De Winne aboard the ISS.
Several educational and fun elements will illustrate the event.
The aim is to invite approximately 3000 young people.
 
Debate: Dynamic debate wit all astronauts, scientists and managers  (500 persons).

• Zaterdag, 19 september 2009: Departure arrangements

Het jaar 2009 is niet alleen het “International Year of Astronomy”, het is ook het jaar waarin ESA- astronaut Frank De Winne opnieuw naar het internationaal ruimtestation ISS vliegt en er zes maanden zal verblijven. De bevoegde overheden moeten van ruimtevaart en astronomie dan ook een flagship-thema maken bij de sensibilisering voor techniek en wetenschap.
“Op dit ogenblik zijn alle randvoorwaarden aanwezig om zo een actie te doen slagen”. (Prins Filipfonds, Conferentie 'Ruimte voor Techniek en Wetenschap' op 20/02/2008).
Meer dan ooit is de tijd rijp om jongeren te sensibiliseren voor wetenschap en techniek. Door de ruime media-aandacht rond de missie van Frank De Winne kan verwacht worden dat jongeren weer zullen dromen. De vzw Euro Space Society wil van deze gelegenheid gebruik maken om deze doelgroep te stimuleren en te interesseren voor techniek en wetenschap.  
”Te weinig jongeren kiezen voor studies op het gebied van techniek of wetenschappen. Toch is er heel wat interesse en potentieel talent aanwezig bij de jongeren. Het komt er nu op aan om deze interesses en talenten van jongeren te vertalen in de nodige competenties.” (Dirk Frimout)

Het project.
Een tiental astronauten en kosmonauten worden uitgenodigd naar ons land van 13 tot 19 september 2009 en zullen door hun getuigenis objectieve informatie verstrekken en debat stimuleren rond het thema ruimtevaart.
Het voorlopig programma voorziet de deelname van een aantal Russische, Amerikaanse en Europese astronauten/kosmonauten die o.a. zullen deelnemen aan academische zittingen over ruimtevaart, sterrenkunde en wetenschap om meer interesse te kweken voor technologie en technische studiekeuzes. Contacten en een direct gesprek tussen jongeren met Frank De Winne in de ruimte zullen hoogtepunten zijn gedurende deze ruimtevaartdagen.
De activiteiten  kunnen gehouden worden in samenwerking met Belgische Universiteiten
De astronauten zullen debatteren en getuigen over de grote uitdagingen i.v.m. onze planeet. Om zoveel mogelijk jongeren te bereiken worden ze uitgenodigd op verschillende ontmoetingsnamiddagen voor scholen.
De deelnemers
Burggraaf Dirk Frimout, de eerste Belgische astronaut en voorzitter van de vzw Euro Space Society, heeft gedurende het XXI Planetary Congress in Seattle, Washington, USA
September 14-20, 2008 reeds contacten gelegd met collega’s astronauten en volgende astronauten, waarbij enkele uitzonderlijke figuren, o.a. de eerste Moslim in de Ruimte, hebben reeds toegezegd:

• NASA astronaut John M. Fabian (Colonel, USAF, Ret.) A veteran of two space flights, he has logged over 316 hours in space. He served as a mission specialist on STS-7 (June 18-24, 1983) and STS-51G (June 17-24, 1985).

• Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. On April 19, 2001, became the first Canadian to walk in space. He and his crew mates aboard the space shuttle Endeavour delivered and installed the second generation of the Canadarm on the International Space Station (ISS).

• Kosmonaut Dumitru Prunariu (Roumanie) : Soyouz 40 in1981

• Kosmonaut Bertalan Farkas (Hungarian) Soyuz 36 on May 26, 1980

• Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor (Malaysia). He was launched to the International Space Station aboard Soyuz TMA-11 with the Expedition 16 crew on October 10, 2007. Sheikh Muszaphar (Malaysian orthopaedic surgeon) flew under an agreement with Russia and returned to Earth on October 21, 2007, aboard Soyuz TMA-10. Since Sheikh Muszaphar is a Muslim, and as his time in space coincided with the last part of Ramadan, the Islamic National Fatwa Council drew up the first comprehensive guidebook for Muslims in space.

• NASA astronaut Mario Runco (three space flights (STS-44 en 1991, STS-54 en 1993, et STS-77 en 1996). Il a participé aux journées spatiales en Belgique en 2008.

• Female astronaut Chiaki Mukai , JAPAN. In 1985, Mukai was selected as one of three Japanese Payload Specialist candidates for the First Material Processing Test (Spacelab-J) which flew aboard STS-47. She also served as a back-up payload specialist for the Neurolab (STS-90) mission. Mukai has logged over 566 hours in space. She flew aboard STS-65 in 1994 and STS-95 in 1998. She is the first Japanese woman to fly in space, and the first Japanese citizen to fly twice.

• Kosmonaut Sergey Revin, (Rus) Kosmonaut from Energia. From 2007 to 2008 at he was conducting an educational experiment conserning the possibilities of using space flights matereals in Ecology Studies at school.
  

Have also been invited:
- Jean-Pierre Haigneré (FR) He flew on two missions to the Mir space station in 1993 and 1999. The Mir Altair long-duration mission (186 days) in 1993 also included an EVA. He is married to former French spationaut Claudie Haigneré. The asteroid 135268 Haigneré is named in their combined honour.
- Kosmonaut Yuri Usachev (RU). From January 8, 1994 to July 9, 1994, he served as Board Engineer on Space Station Mir. From February 21, 1996 to September 2, 1996, he again served as Board Engineer on Mir-21. One month later, he and Yuri Onufrienko were joined by NASA's Shannon Lucid. He next flew on STS-101, the third Shuttle mission devoted to International Space Station (ISS) construction. More recently, he was the Commander of the Expedition 2 crew which launched on March 8, 2001 aboard STS-102 Discovery and successfully docked with the International Space Station on March 9, 2001. The Expedition-2 crew lived and worked aboard ISS for the next 163 days. They returned to Earth with the crew of STS-105 on August 22, 2001, on the Shuttle flight delivering the third Expedition crew. Altogether, Usachev has logged over 670 days in space and has participated in six EVAs. He retired in 2005
- ESA astronaut Reinhold Ewald (GE), Soyouz TM-25 in 1997
- ESA astronaut Léopold Eyharts (Fr). He flew in the Mir Space Station in February 1998. Recently he spent over 6 weeks living and working aboard the International Space Station. He launched on February 7, 2008 with the crew of STS-122 and  delivering ESA’s Columbus Laboratory to the station. Eyharts returned to Earth with the crew of STS-123 in a night landing at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida on March 26, 2008.

De deelname van ESA (European Space Agency), de NASA, het federaal Wetenschapsbeleid, de Vlaamse en Franse Gemeenschap en het Prins Filipfonds is verzekerd.
De ruimtevaartindustrie (Belgospace, Wallonie Espace en VRI) worden als partners uitgenodigd evenals de Belgische universiteiten en hogescholen.
